1. Today is my son's birthday. He's 12 years old! Finally.
It's not like I was in a hurry for him to turn twelve. I quite like eleven. It's just that he was eleven for SO LONG. When he was 10 years 3 months old, I started thinking he was eleven. I'd say things like, "You can do that. You are eleven years old!" Of course, I'd get a "Uh, no mom. Actually, I'm ten." If someone asked me how old my kids were, I'd have to stop on him and think before I said ten. And then I felt like I was lying.
So, after being eleven for 21 months, it's about dang time he turned twelve! And yes, I'm a little excited. Because now he gets to pass the sacrament with his brother. He gets to collect fast offerings with his brother. And he gets to go to young mens with his brother. How cool is that? Pretty darn.
2. I'm leaving for a writing conference in the morning. I'm just a teeny bit more than excited. Okay, way more than I've ever been for a conference. Plus, I get to pitch my book to a national agent. The fear and the giddiness are mixing to make the storm of the century in my gut.
It actually feels kinda cool.
3. I'm staying AT the conference. Which means that for the first time EVER, my kids will be getting to school without me. Without me. It's not that I think they aren't perfectly capable... It's just that it's without me.
It DOESN'T feel kinda cool. I'm actually not sure how it feels.
4. It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Which just happens to be one of my favorite weeks. Unlike every year since my oldest was in Kindergarten, I haven't taken pictures of all the great door decorations! Or done a blog post on it! And there are SO VERY MANY awesome doors this year. Sadly, the one I made is not one of them. I had grand plans of it being awesome, but as it turned out, my creative energy had been siphoned off so much that I had to go with an unplanned Plan B. It was just all right. Nothing special. But dang if there weren't a lot that were something special! I haven't given up on getting pictures, even if it looks like the odds are against me.
5. I have SO many things to do in the next nine hours! Aaaa! It's looking statistically impossible. Yet, here I am, writing a blog post. But only because I really want to keep that crown and sash.
