Except for today. Today, I had several firsts! And the span of time it took to do all of them was relatively small. The Try Something New mentality seemed like it could actually work today.
1. For the first time ever, I spilled a crock pot full of homemade chili in my van. (I was driving down the street with said crock pot on the floor in the back of my van. When I turned a corner, BAM! The pot tipped, and chili crashed against the door. I pulled over to see what I could do about it, and found that there was chili EVERYWHERE. Even in the track for the door.)
2. For the first time ever, I went to the car wash while sleet was falling from the sky, after spilling a crock pot full of chili in my van.
3. For the first time ever, I used the wash-your-car-yourself-sprayer to spray out the INSIDE of my car, while sleet was falling from the sky, after spilling a crock pot full of chili in my van.
4. For the first time ever, I wore a bat costume to the carwash, where I used the wash-your-car-yourself-sprayer to spray out the INSIDE of my car, while sleet was falling from the sky, after spilling a crock pot full of chili in my van.
It was all good times.
My kids and I decided that feeding the sewer dwellers a pot of seriously rockin' chili was a very appropriately Halloween thing to do. We left the car wash feeling great about our service to a group of creatures that probably don't get services done for them any more often than they see sunlight or smell freshly baked bread.
Maybe we'll make it a Halloween tradition.

You are fantastic, Peggy. What a great way to look at life. I probably would have just sworn and grumbled the rest of the day.
Haha! That is funny! Love your costumes!
Love the "This is the House that Jack Built" writing style!
As for the lost pot of seriously rockin' chili, I feel bad for those who missed out on it.
On the other hand, the rest of us got to enjoy this post, which was a real treat.
Peg,
Very cute story! I love the pictures and the story. I am just proud of you for thinking of the car wash. I probably would have just cleaned it up for hour by hand.
I'm glad you made this into something positive. I'd still be crying over spilt chilli.
I've been thinking about that bat costume. It's the very thing that I would wear to door ditch a treat on a friends doorstep. Kindof hides you in the night . . . if you know what I mean.
I liked the writing of this post - so fun!
