I'm terrible at naming things. Let's just get that out there in the open.
That's why, even after working on a novel for a FULL 7 MONTHS, it is still sitting nameless! It's driving me more than a little crazy.
My sweet hubby made me that progress bar over there on the left to track how far I am in this novel. Isn't it the coolest? Do you know what would make it even cooler? Having a title above the bar, instead of "My Manuscript." I mean, how lame is that?
As you can see, I desperately need your help in naming this book.
And I'm not above begging.
Or bribing.
So, here's the deal (in short concise terms):
You recommend (a) title(s), and I provide prizes.
Here's the deal (in more spelled-out terms):
For each title you suggest, you will receive one entry in a drawing. When the contest ends on Saturday night at midnight, through a highly scientific method of randomness (i.e. I'll put entries in a hat and have my kids pull some out), I will choose 5 WINNING ENTRIES! If your entry gets drawn, you will get a fantastic prize either dropped off at your house or mailed to you.
If your title is the one I use, I will also send you a fantastic prize now. If my dreams come true and this book gets published, I will thank you in the acknowledgments section of the book and give you one in the future. But more importantly, I will shout your praises from the rooftops, and you'll from henceforth always and forever have my undying gratitude.
Sound good? Good. Here's what I need from you:
Read a blurb about my book. There are two choices here (placed on convenient buttons below, courtesy of my talented husband). You can click on the "Novel Synopsis" button where you can read a short... well, synopsis of the book. Don't worry-- it doesn't give away the ending. Or, if you plan on reading the book (eventually!) and have great problems with spoilers of any kind, click on the "Bare Bones" button. It has the least possible amount of information you could possibly have to come up with a title.
Then comment. You can leave as many title suggestions as you'd like in the comments section. You can even leave a comment as anonymous (just make sure you have some kind of name there-- if you win, I'll get your info later).
My book is aimed toward 8 - 12 year olds (which, in bookish terms, makes it a "middle-grade" novel), if that helps.
The contest will go until Saturday night at midnight (August 1, 2009). I will announce the winners Monday morning.
Now. Don't go away thinking you don't have a clever enough or awesome enough title and leave without commenting! (Or if you do, make sure you come back.) Trust me. Whatever title you come up with is worlds better than what I've come up with.
And from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!
UPDATE: You may want to think of a title before clicking on the comments to avoid feeling like they're all taken already. :)
